Kali Deno

Painter based in Lawrence, KS

Paying homage to nature down to a molecular level, Kali Deno creates imagery to uplift and engage the viewers eye. By using an exaggerated amount of color, her acrylic pieces intend to provoke an emotional response to patterns in free form.

Kali’s previous works incorporate mediums such as acrylic, resin, and alcohol ink on reclaimed slabs of wood. Leaving the wood exposed to celebrate it’s natural patterns and play with the juxtaposition of bright acrylic paint and ink. With each layer of resin she adds cellular movement with alcohol ink.

While she owes most of her abstract curiosity to the process, her interest in unpredictable outcomes began in 2004 while studying ceramics at Washington State University. After graduating she spent time working with the human form and painting portraits while living in South Korea including her series of Haenyeo (Korean divers). Each experience brings her closer to her relationship with abstract art.
